HLC abraça vários projectos de energia

Eólica, biomassa e biocombustíveis são as áreas eleitas pela HLC no sector da energia. No sector eólico, o grupo HLC criou, em 2007, a Aeolus, com sede em Londres, Inglaterra, que conta com uma sucursal no Brasil, a Zephyr. Este veículo especial para a área do vento está a estudar novas oportunidades de negócio, nomeadamente no Norte de África, na Ucrânia e na Índia, «mas ainda não há nada de concreto», refere ao jornal Água&Ambiente Horácio Carvalho, presidente do grupo HLC. Para já os maiores esforços da empresa estão concentrados no Brasil.

«Este ano vai haver um leilão energético em Maio, que foi anunciado pelo Governo brasileiro, e esperamos entrar com 200 a 350 MW dos 700 MW que temos em carteira. Vamos a leilão para conseguir os PPA (power purchase agreement), que é o contrato de venda de energia de longo prazo, que permite depois avançar com o projecto», adianta Horácio Carvalho, revelando que, neste momento, já estão na posse dos terrenos, licenciamentos e ligações à rede eléctrica.

Também no Brasil, mas na área da biomassa, em Agosto do ano passado, a HLC participou em outro leilão, no qual a sua empresa BEN ganhou um PPA para 15 anos, para uma central de 33 MW, no Piauí, baseada em biomassa de capim elefante (semelhante à cana-de-açucar).

Interesse no biodiesel

No final de 2008, o grupo fechou uma parceria com duas sociedades brasileiras, numa esmagadora de soja (com capacidade para 120 mil toneladas anuais) e numa esmagadora de mamona (com capacidade para 60 mil toneladas anuais), sedeadas em Petrolina, no Estado de Pernambuco. Horácio Carvalho conta que entrou neste projecto «por causa do nosso sector de biocombustíveis», já que tinha estudado a possibilidade de avançar com uma central para biodiesel, em Sines. Porém, devido à conjuntura mundial e aos elevados preços dos óleos vegetais, «acabámos por desistir do projecto e ainda bem, senão hoje estaríamos falidos».

Como a empresa não foi avante com a fábrica, está actualmente a fazer operações de trading, tendo fechado dois contratos na Índia, com duas empresas de autocarros, no passado mês de Dezembro. Neste negócio, «ocupamo-nos da compra da matéria-prima, do processamento, do shipping e do cliente final. A produção é feita externamente», acrescenta.

HLC Environmental Holdings Launches New Site

HLC Environmental Holdings Ltd. is pleased to announce the launch of its new website. The new site presents the latest developments of the HLC Group as a whole within its business activities, namely the Environment and Renewable Energy sectors, as well as the rebranding occurring throughout 2009 and represents the consolidation of the Group.

The new website includes features such as a short film, an outlook about the current situation with Climate Change and the Energy sector, an interactive world map showing HLC’s global presence as well as providing more detailed information on the Group’s companies and the people involved in their development. Bookmarking and social media tags are also embedded throughout the site so that visitors can share news and information with others on sites like LinkedIn, Facebook, Digg, and Del.icio.us.

It also includes a section on social networking that is being developed with our partners and associates in mind and will hopefully facilitate the communication and transmission of current ideas and events within the Climate Change, Environment and Renewable Energy Industry sectors.
